Yesterday I took two of my largest snakes outdoors for some freedom and they had a great day, They are really gentle giants so I don't understand why so many people assume they are big evil killing machines :(
I've had some health problems for the past 3 months and have had to use one foot and crutch to take care of my snakes and home so for the first time this year it felt great to be feeling better and to be able to take two of my largest constrictor snakes out and they had a great time exploring and having some freedom. The snakes in this video are Faide (Dumeril's Ground Boa) and Chewy (Coastal Carpet Python) Also in this video is my Daughter, Carla Valentine Combs that has been staying with me to help me because of my problems getting around for the past few months and in the process she has made great friends with some of my largest snakes :o)

Everyone that knows my female Coastal Carpet Python now calls her Miss Prissy Pants because she has that female attitude and is VERY set in her ways and she's one that will constantly try to tail smack you when she is out of she doesn't want to do something. She is 6 years old and still offering her rats will get me nothing except her trying to strike me in my face !! Her name is Jade and I hope to breed her with my male Chewy this coming year if she will stop scarring the crap out of him when I put them together he tries everything he can to hide from her. LOL I've never raised a snake with all the different personality quirks that Jade has so she is like a different snake every day yet I have to add VERY entertaining to say the least :)

I've actually had many of my snakes out right before I had planned to feed them and their feeders were thawing and they had no issues at all with my cat and had no interest in eating her even though they knew it was feeding day !!
My cat and my snakes grew up together and they love to spend time hanging out with each other and they are always supervised. Chewy the snake (in this video) and my cat have been pals now for 8 years and always get along great :) I don't suggest anyone force their cat and snakes together mine made this choice on their own and were never forced into this relationship.

I give my snakes plenty of time outside their enclosures and their favorite thing to do is coil up in a plastic tote with the top off and just lay there all day next to where I sit on my daybed. They watch everything I'm doing around the house and have every opportunity to leave their plastic tote but they don't because they are content being close to me. Unlike the bad reputation so many people give snakes they are awesome companions and pets if raised to be social animals.

I'm one that offers my snakes changes in their environment so they don't get bored with things around them in their enclosures and have found that snakes that are entertained are seldom as restless or agitated as snakes that never have any changes in their cages or enclosures and this really adds a LOT to enhance their personalities and temperaments. Snakes are naturally very curious animals and love to explore things.

I've made this video for the purpose of showing people how social and friendly snakes can be that live in a captive environment and actually they make great companions and pets.
The snake in this video is an 11 foot long male Coastal Carpet Python and his favorite thing to do is to spend time with me outside of his enclosure. Snakes that are socialized aren't mean aggressive animals !!

Many people refuse to believe that snakes can be friendly social animals no different from a cat or dog but they can be and make great companions ! When a snake moves fast it doesn't mean it's being aggressive they do that when they are excited about something as well. Snakes do have individual personalities and just because they are BIG doesn't mean they are mean aggressive animals. My 34 snakes are awesome and VERY people friendly but depends on the time that you invest handling them and working with them. Chewy was all excited because I was sick for a week so didn't take him out and he's usually out of his enclosure 3 or 4 times a week. Sorry the video is so dark it was filmed at night under lower than normal lighting. The other female in this video is my oldest Daughter, April and she's been doing GREAT handling and working with my big snakes :)

This has always been a very controversial issue that people often contemplate about snakes and what it comes down to is the people that handle their snakes and often work with them see and observe actions in their snakes more than most would that seldom take their snakes out to handle them or socialize the snakes !! People that invest tons of quality time working with their snakes can confirm that snakes do in fact display feelings and emotions on different levels. Snakes are VERY aware of everything around them in their environment !!

I just woke up and noticed Jade made a mess in her enclosure so without my first cup of coffee I woke her up and took her out to clean up and wash down her enclosure and she wasn't exactly happy with being disturbed LOL Jade isn't normally as flighty as she was in this video it was because I surprised her when I woke her up.

I spend a lot of time socializing with my snakes outside of their enclosures and they really love all the attention. Chewy often begs me to take him out so today while my daughter April was here I took him out for an hour and he kept her real busy.
Snakes are SO curious and they love to explore and get into everything. Chewy is an 11 foot male Coastal Carpet Python and he's a VERY people friendly guy !!

Love watching snakes shed all the time and energy they invest especially larger constrictors. It really isn't that simple of a process and it amazes me all the things that snakes accomplish without any legs, feet hands or arms. The snake in this video is Chewy my male Coastal Carpet Python. For a larger constrictor it generally takes up to an hour from the start to the finish of a shed and they usually sleep for a couple of days after a shed.

The snake in this video is Jade, my female Coastal Carpet Python and for many years when someone tried to take her out of her enclosure she would swing her tail and smack the person trying to handle her but snakes do have the capacity to learn routines and through bringing her out she has learned that if she doesn't use her tail against me or anyone else her reward is that she gets to come out of her enclosure more often and she gets to spend time interacting with people. End result is she has completely stopped using her tail swinging it at me when she felt the need to protest something. This has been a major accomplishment with her as she is 6 years old and has done this up until the end of summer. She has learned that with proper behavior she can be rewarded and now she loves to come out. This is also my oldest daughter in this video. Snakes ARE NOT dumb animals and are capable of learning

My snakes are frequently handled and spend a lot of time out of their enclosures and I made this video to show people that my snakes react to a total stranger just as they act with me and around me. They are VERY social animals and make awesome companions. The snakes in this video are my female, Jade and my male Chewy and the man in the video that had never met my snakes before is my Daughter's new boyfriend and his name is Jason and he was totally comfortable with my snakes and they were at ease with him.
This is a longer video than I usually make but I wanted to show people that snakes don't react to strangers with aggression nor defensive behavior once they have learned to trust people.
